The curfew in Banbhoolpura, Uttarakhand, which was put in place because of the violence in Haldwani, has been lifted for a short time.

30 people have been taken by the police because they were involved in the Haldwani violence. The houses of Abdul Malik and Abdul Moeed, a father-son pair wanted for the violence in Banbhoolpura, were taken by the authorities in Haldwani on Friday.

The curfew in Banbhoolpura, Uttarakhand, which was put in place because of the violence in Haldwani, has been lifted for a short time.

On Friday, the authorities decided to temporarily lift the curfew in Banbhoolpura, a part of Haldwani City. This curfew was put in place after violence erupted on February 8 when an ‘illegal structure’ was torn down during an anti-encroachment operation.

The Nanital Police, as posted on X, have stated that while the curfew in Banbhoolpura, Haldwani City, is being relaxed during the day, certain areas such as Gaujajali, FSI, and Godown will still have night curfew in place from 8pm to 6am. Additionally, in other areas under the jurisdiction of the Banbhoolpura police station, the night curfew will be enforced from 5pm to 6am. This means that while people will have more freedom during the day, there are still restrictions on movement and activities during the night in specific areas to maintain peace and order.

The authorities not only imposed a curfew but also gave orders to shoot anyone causing trouble, like throwing stones or burning vehicles, especially after a protest at the local police station.

Yesterday, a senior police officer named Amit Sinha visited the area where the violence happened in Banbhoolpura. He checked the new police post and discussed how to make it safer. He also talked about making a better police station.

During the action, many police officers and administration officials were there, including Superintendent of Police Harbans Singh, Officer Sangeeta, Tehsildar Sachin, and Inspector DR Verma.

Earlier, a court in Haldwani decided to take away the property of nine people, including Abdul Malik and his son, who were said to be the leaders of the violence. The police were allowed to arrest them using certain laws. On Tuesday, the court said they couldn’t get bail.

The Municipal Corporation in Haldwani also asked Malik to pay 2.44 crore rupees for the damage to government property. The Chief Minister said there’s no place for troublemakers in the state.

The Director General of Police in Uttarakhand said the violence wasn’t because of religion. Five people died, and many were hurt. The police found weapons and bullets with the people they arrested. The government asked for more paramilitary forces to be sent to the area.
