This prestigious honour recognizes his unwavering commitment to transparency, integrity, and political ethics during his decades-long service in public life.

Veteran BJP Leader LK Advani Awarded Bharat Ratna: A Lifetime of Service Honored

LK Advani, one of the most respected statesmen of our times, is credited with playing a pivotal role in shaping the BJP’s rise throughout the 1990s. Under his leadership, the BJP came to power for the first time as part of coalition governments led by the iconic Atal Bihari Vajpayee. Advani served as the Deputy Prime Minister in the Atal Bihari Vajpayee-led cabinet from 2002 to 2004, further solidifying his legacy in Indian politics.

Prime Minister Modi expressed his deep admiration for Advani’s contributions to the nation, stating that his monumental efforts towards national unity and cultural resurgence are highly commendable. He described Advani’s service as a “life that started from working at the grassroots to serving the nation as our Deputy Prime Minister.”

Advani’s political journey is nothing short of remarkable. He not only served as the Deputy Prime Minister but also holds the distinction of being the longest-serving Minister of Home Affairs in India. Additionally, he has been the longest-serving Leader of the Opposition in the Lok Sabha, showcasing his leadership and dedication to public service.

In his response to being conferred with the Bharat Ratna, Advani expressed his humility and gratitude. “With utmost humility and gratitude, I accept the Bharat Ratna that has been conferred on me today,” he stated. “It is not only an honor for me as a person but also for the ideals and principles that I strove to serve throughout my life to the best of my ability.”

Advani further extended his appreciation to President Droupadi Murmu and Prime Minister Narendra Modi for this prestigious recognition. He also shared heartfelt sentiments for his family, especially his late wife Kamla, who had been a source of strength throughout his journey.

“Ever since I joined the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh as its volunteer at the age of 14, I have sought reward in only one thing – in dedicated and selfless service of my beloved country in whatever task life assigned to me,” Advani reflected on his lifelong commitment to public service.

In a touching tribute, he also remembered two key figures who had a significant impact on his political career: “Today, I gratefully remember two persons with whom I had the honor of working closely – Pandit Deendayal Upadhyaya and Bharat Ratna Shri Atal Bihari Vajpayee.”
