Body: In a statement issued by the Indian Air Force, it was confirmed that five IAF personnel were injured in the exchange of fire with terrorists. Despite their efforts to fight back, one Air Warrior succumbed to injuries sustained during the attack.

According to military sources, combing and search operations had been underway in the area for several days following reports of militant movement. The militants, armed with AK assault rifles, targeted a vehicle in the convoy, with bullets piercing its front and side windscreen.

The injured personnel were evacuated to the nearest military hospital for immediate medical attention. The ongoing search and cordon operations involve special forces of the Army, along with the 37 Rashtriya Rifles (RR) and other units in the vicinity.

This attack marks the third militant incident in the Rajouri-Poonch region this year, following similar attacks in April where militants targeted the brother of an Army jawan and a Village Defence Group member in separate incidents.

The incident underscores the persistent security challenges faced by the region and the continuous threat posed by militants. It highlights the bravery and dedication of the armed forces who risk their lives to maintain peace and security in the area.

Efforts to locate and neutralize the militants responsible for the attack are ongoing. The incident comes amidst heightened security concerns as security forces remain on alert for the Lok Sabha polls
