In a closed-door meeting held in Delhi, Prime Minister Narendra Modi has directed Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) members to operate in “mission mode,” stressing the imperative of full implementation of government projects and welfare schemes. The two-day meeting, attended by national and state office bearers, is part of the party’s strategic planning for the upcoming 2024 general elections.
During the meeting, Modi emphasized the need for BJP leaders to ensure the seamless execution of government initiatives aimed at empowering women, the poor, young, and farmers. The party’s objective is to exceed its 2019 performance by winning more seats in the upcoming elections, with a target set by the leadership to surpass the previous tally of 303 seats.
BJP chief JP Nadda, speaking on the occasion, noted, “Under the guidance of the Prime Minister, the BJP is moving forward on the path of building a developed India by empowering the country’s main pillars: the youth, farmers, women, and the poor.”
The meeting comes on the heels of the BJP’s recent victories in Madhya Pradesh, Rajasthan, and Chhattisgarh, providing a significant boost to the party’s morale. Despite losses in these states in 2018, the BJP secured an impressive performance in the 2019 Lok Sabha polls.
A key focus of the meeting is a thorough review of the party’s performance in 160 Lok Sabha constituencies where improvement is needed. Over the past year, senior leaders and Union ministers have been deployed to oversee election preparations in areas where the BJP either did not win or faced narrow defeats.
The BJP’s strategy involves the early announcement of candidates for constituencies designated as “weak” to allow sufficient time for campaigning and understanding the intricacies of the local context. This approach proved successful in the recent assembly polls, with the party winning 24 out of 39 seats announced in the first list for “weak” constituencies in Madhya Pradesh.
The meeting also delved into the saturation of social schemes, with the government initiating the Viksit Bharat Campaign to ensure that no eligible individual is left out of the welfare net. The campaign aims to empower women, the poor, farmers, and the youth through focused policies and schemes.
In states where the BJP is not in power, the cadre has been instructed to overcome potential obstacles in the disbursal of aid under central government schemes. Addressing concerns of obstruction, particularly in Opposition-ruled states like West Bengal, the BJP aims to prevent the hijacking of central government schemes or their rebranding as state-sponsored programs.
As the political landscape intensifies in the lead-up to the 2024 elections, the BJP, under the guidance of Prime Minister Modi, appears determined to forge ahead with a comprehensive and mission-oriented approach to secure a strong mandate.
