Basic Sources to List your Business – How to List Your Business in Google and Bing

So now you are aware of all the features and benefits of publishing your business on directories. However, your efforts will be incomplete if you ignore Google and Bing places. Even without much struggle, your business will be showing up in search results at least for broad and specific search queries.

How to List Your Business in Google and Bing

Getting Started – Google Maps

There may be two situations, either your business would be already listed in Google Maps or you need to place it if it isn’t there. So let’s learn how to accomplish the task.

Step 1: Open Google Maps and simply click on the Menu tab at the top left corner.

Step 2: There will be a list of several options, find and click on the “Add a missing place” link at the bottom.

Step 3: A box at the left corner will pop up over the map containing all the details’ field “Name”, “Address”, “Category” and more.

Step 4: Drag the map marker at your business’s location and click on the “submit” button.

You will receive an e-mail from Google once your listing is published; usually, it happens immediately. Editing information about existing places takes a longer time.

Note: You can anytime claim your business so that no one can make changes to your information. Simply open your business and click on “Claim this Business”.

Final Step: It will take you on a page that says to send a verification postcard at your location. Once you have that CODE, simply login to “Google My Business”, select your Business and enter the code.

Getting Started – Bing Places

Publishing your business on Bing Places/Maps doesn’t allow a simple dashboard on their map itself. So you need to first login to “Bing Places for Business”

Step 1: Go to the dashboard and click on “Add new Business”.

Step 2: Now you need to search for your Business first, just follow the steps.

Step 3: Click on the “My business is not listed” button below.

Step 4: Now fill in each type of detail section one by one. Place the Map Pin at your physical location.

Step 5: It will now ask to send you the Postcard. Once you get it, open Bing Places for Business and enter the code.

In Bing Places there is also a nice option of description, fill it well to make your possible customers attracted.

Ranking high in Local Packs!

There are limitations in manipulating local rankings in some circumstances. If you are 1km far from a place called “Durga Foods” and search for “restaurants near me” then “Durga Foods” will be ranked above a place called “Makhan Foods” which is 2km far. Even “Makhan Foods” have much more links and citations than “Durga Foods”, it can’t rank high for obvious reasons.
