Bhubaneswar, April 11 (PTI): The Biju Janata Dal (BJD) in Odisha has created waves with its groundbreaking decision to field 33% women candidates and embrace 38% turncoats for the upcoming Lok Sabha elections in the state.

Under the dynamic leadership of BJD chief and Odisha Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik, the party has redefined political norms by prioritizing gender representation and political inclusivity. The nomination process for the 21 parliamentary seats concluded on Thursday, marking a pivotal moment in Odisha’s political landscape.

Announcing the culmination of the nomination process, Naveen Patnaik proudly presented Lekhasri Samantsinghar as the BJD’s candidate for the prestigious Balasore Lok Sabha seat. This move underscores the party’s unwavering commitment to empowering women and fostering their active participation in governance and decision-making processes.

This isn’t the first time Naveen Patnaik has championed women’s representation in politics. In 2019, out of the seven women candidates fielded by the BJD supremo, an impressive five emerged victorious in the Lok Sabha polls. This success story serves as a testament to the capabilities and leadership qualities of women in Odisha’s political arena.

Moreover, the BJD’s decision to embrace 38% turncoats reflects its pragmatic approach towards coalition-building and strengthening its electoral prospects. While some may view this as a departure from traditional party loyalty, others see it as a strategic maneuver to expand the party’s support base and address the evolving needs of the electorate.

In a rapidly changing political landscape, where dynamics and alliances are constantly shifting, the BJD’s adaptability and willingness to embrace change set it apart as a progressive force committed to serving the interests of all sections of society.

As the state gears up for the Lok Sabha elections, all eyes are on the BJD and its innovative strategies that promise to shape the future of Odisha’s politics. With a formidable lineup of candidates, including a significant representation of women and turncoats, the party is poised to make a resounding impact and reaffirm its position as a dominant political force in the state
