On April 8 and 11, 2025, the district of Murshidabad—already a sensitive border zone—was rocked by violent riots. Under the garb of opposing the Waqf Amendment Act, large mobs—composed mostly of radicalised Muslims—attacked Hindu localities with swords, petrol bombs, and acid.

A father and his son were lynched inside their own home.
Women were threatened: “Give your honour, or we’ll take your husband’s life.”

Some leaders have openly called for President’s Rule in Bengal.
